Mysore police on Saturday arrested five accused in gang-rape of an MBA student of a college student near Mysuru earlier this week, confirmed Karnataka DG and IGP Praveen Sood. While the sixth accused is still missing, all the five arrested are recognized to be the natives of Tamil Nadu’s Tiruppur district.
“As per preliminary interrogation, one of them is a juvenile-a 17-year-old. We will confirm the matter after a proper investigation”, said Praveen Sood. The five, who frequented Mysuru often, are from the “labor class” doing jobs like wiring, carpentry, and driving, he added.
Praveen Sood then stated that they requested the High Court to expedite trial in the case. Sood said a special prosecutor would be appointed if required and efforts would be made to see that the perpetrators get punishment as soon as possible.
The 22-year-old MBA student from Maharashtra studying at a Mysuru university – and her friend were attacked at Chamundi Hills late Tuesday evening. A group of men, allegedly drinking, saw the couple go into the forests and followed them. The horror that followed landed the two in the hospital about six hours later.
