As the list of patients complaining epilepsy, seizures, giddiness, vomiting and frothing in the month continued to admit to the government hospital in Eluru town, officials confirmed the total tally as 448 including the 28 more being hospitalised on Monday.
While one fatality is reported so far, an incident that took place on Monday morning opened up the sheer negligence of Eluru health officials. The 45-year-old man was identified as Sridhar from Vidyanagar area of Eluru town succumbed to the illness on Sunday evening.
The mortal remains of Sridhar were handed over to his family yesterday evening as his family members took the body home. However, tensions ran high as the family alleged that the police took the body back to the hospital.
While the health officials claimed to reclaim the body for autopsy to find out the actual reason, the family suspected foul play and officials’ negligence.
TDP supremo and former chief minister Chandrababu Naidu took to his official Twitter account demanding an impartial, full-fledged inquiry into the incident.
