Days after sending a registered notice to the media house to withdraw the story which allegedly maligned his fame, Telugu Desam Party’s National Principal Secretary Nara Lokesh filed a defamation suit against ‘Sakshi’. The defamation suit for Rs 75 crore was filed at the 12th additional district judge of Visakhapatnam on Saturday against Sakshi. Furnishing the proofs, Nara Lokesh filed the lawsuit with original suit No. 6/2020 which alleged that the new paper owned by the YSRCP chief Jagan has deliberately misinterpreted the information to defame him.
Back on October 22, 2019, Sakshi publish the article ‘Chinababu thindiki 25 lakshalandi’ which alleged that the Government had to pay up a bill of 25 Lakhs for the Refreshments Lokesh had at a cafeteria in Vishakapatnam Airport. Days after which Lokesh issued a clarification which stated that the bill is of all the Ministers and officials who come under the protocol. Over which, Lokesh’s legal team sent registered notice to the editors of Sakshi on October 25th, 2019 which had no response. He also attached the proofs that he is not in Vishakapatnam on the bills raised on some particular dates.
However, the media house neither took back the story or issued an apology which probably irked the former minister. Followed by which, Lokesh filed the Rs 75 crore defamation case against Jagathi Publication Limited, Sakshi editor Vardhelli Murali, Sakshi’s Visakhapatnam news reporters B Venkata Reddy and Garikapati Umakanth. Representatives of Sakshi are yet to respond on this issue.
