Netflix’s recent outing ’A Suitable Boy’ has been fetching decent reviews from the critics with heartwarming performances and story narration. Weeks after the OTT release, an FIR was registered in Madhya Pradesh against Netflix for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
According to the FIR filed, Madhya Pradesh home minister Narottam Mishra raised objections over the scene where a Hindu woman and a man belonging to the Muslim community share a kiss at a temple. In a tweet, he added that the show promotes ‘love jihad’.
Further, the leader urged the authorities legal action against Netflix OTT platform and the producer-director of the series. While the police are yet to initiate action, Tiwari also appealed to people at large on Twitter to uninstall Netflix from their phones, as #BoycottNetflix began to trend on Twitter.
‘A Suitable Boy’ is a six-episode series set in the backdrop of newly independent India (1951) and is about a few families and their efforts to arrange the marriage of their daughter to a suitable boy. The series which is an adaption of Vikram Seth’s novel ‘A Suitable Boy’ have talented actors like Ishaan Khatter, Tabu, Tanya Maniktala and Rasika Dugal.
