National Investigation Agency (NIA) in multiple raids carried out in Kerala and Bengal nabbed nine Al-Qaeda terrorists on Saturday morning. According to the NIA sources, the terrorists were planning attacks in several places in the country, including the National Capital Region (NCR).
Six of them were arrested from Murshidabad and three from Ernakulam who reportedly targeted places like Kochi naval base and shipyard. It was also revealed that weapons and bomb-making material were also seized by the NIA sleuths.
“Large quantity of incriminating materials including digital devices, documents, jihadi literature, sharp weapons, country-made firearms, a locally fabricated body armour, articles and literature used for making home-made explosive devices have been seized from their possession,” the NIA said.
As per the initial investigation, it was unveiled that the module was actively indulging in fund-raising and a few members of the gang were planning to travel to Delhi to procure arms and ammunition. Boxes of crackers, switches and batteries from accused arrested Abu Sufiyan’s house in Murshidabad.
The nine terrorists will be produced before the concerned courts in Kerala and West Bengal for police custody and further investigation.
