Nine people, including five women, were killed when an Andhra Pradesh State Road transport corporation (APSRTC) plunged into a stream in West Godavari district on Wednesday. The accident occurred in Jalleru in Jangareddygudem mandal, about 55 km from district headquarters Eluru.
As per police, the driver of the bus hit the railing and fell off into the river when he was trying to avoid hitting a lorry coming from the opposite direction. While 38 people, including children, were rescued, nine including the driver died on the spot.
The bus with 47 passengers onboard from Velurupadu was on its way to Jangareddygudem when the accident took place in Jalleru in Jangareddygudem mandal, about 55 km from district headquarters Eluru. Immediately after the accident, local people launched the rescue operation. Some passengers managed to come out of the bus through windows and they were brought to safety by rescue workers by deploying boats.
