With only five days to go for the most-awaited execution, the convicts in Nirbhaya rape and murder case seems to resort to all possible alternative to escape the judiciary. Hours after the family members of convicts sort President’s permission for mercy killing, news that three of convicts approached the International Court of Justice (ICJ), seeking a stay on the execution of their death sentence came as a shock to Nirbhaya supporters.
This clever move from the convicts’ end, came days after they exhausted all legal remedies and a Delhi court ordering the execution on March 20. Earlier on Monday, the Supreme Court rejected the request by one of the convicts in the 2012 Delhi gang-rape to file a new curative petition against his death sentence. With no other option left, the convicts have finally resorted to the intimate move of approaching the ICJ challenging the order of their hanging.
This move has been receiving flak from the netizens who questioned the financial grounds of the convicts who hail from a below-middle class family. A few lashed out on the two lawyers who have been backing the convicts.
