While yet another postponement of the execution of the four Nirbhaya convicts came as a disappointment to the whole nation, the social media flooded with condemning messages demanding the government to hang them immediately. Hearing to the curative petition filed by the fourth convict Pawan Gupta, the court passed the order to stay the execution. The convict filed a mercy petition before the President on Monday.
On this note, President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday rejected the request for mercy by Pawan Gupta. Followed by a roll of requests from across the nation including Delhi government, President stated that he rejected the plea responding to the mercy petition forwarded by the Union Home Ministry.
Previously, the execution was indefinitely postponed for two times on January 7 and February 1 over petitions filed by the convicts. The same happened on March 1st hours before the execution while Pawan files a curative petition approaching the President.
