While the whole nation is awaiting the execution of the Nirbhaya convicts, seems like they have few more days to test their fortune. Days after the Supreme Court rejected Mukesh’s petition seeking a review of his death sentence, the third convict Akshay Kumar has challenged the rejection of his mercy request citing “non-application of mind” by the President of India. While the apex court will announce its decision on the convict’s petition on Wednesday, the move has been receiving a wave of backlash from the public.
In a fresh revelation, Prakash, convict Mukesh Singh’s lawyer claimed that her client was repeatedly sexually abused in jail. She also claimed he was kept in solitary confinement even before his mercy petition was rejected and this was against prison rules. On the same, the curative petition is expected to be heard by judges in their chambers and not in an open court.
While the execution of the four convicts is scheduled on February 1st, legal heads opined that chances are high that it might get postponed once again. It is already known that Mukesh Singh and Vinay Sharma’s curative petitions have already been rejected. Reacting to the recent petition, the parents of the victim Nirbhaya lashed out that the petitions are desperate attempts to stall their hanging.
