With a war of words between BJP and AAP over the delay in execution of the four convicts, the Nirbhaya gangrape and murder took political hue, of late. While Asha Devi, the mother of Nirbhaya made a public appeal to politicians to not seek political gains over her daughter’s death, senior lawyer Indira Jaising took to Twitter to make a shocking plea to the former on Friday.
Quoting the example of Sonai Gandhi who forgave her husband’s assassin Nalini, Indira requested Nirbhaya’s mother to forgive the convicts and stop their execution. “While I fully identify with the pain of Asha Devi I urge her to follow the example of Sonia Gandhi who forgave Nalini and said she didn’t not want the death penalty for her. We are with you but against death penalty.,” read her tweet.
This request from a senior lawyer’s end welcomed a wave of backlash from the citizen who took to her comment box to hit back her comments. Taking to the media, Asha Devi too slammed Indira over her suggestion to forgive the people who brutally raped her daughter. “Cannot believe how a person like Indira Jaising who holds a responsible position even dared to suggest this. I met her many times over the years in the Supreme Court, not even once has she asked for my well being. I am shocked that she is worried about the convicts. Is she supporting rapists?” she added. Asha Devi further accused Jaising of using the garb of human rights to make a living.
