In a rude shock to BJP Chief and Prime Minister Modi, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, one of the allies of BJP reiterated his stance on implementing the National Register of Citizens(NRC) in the state. Speaking in the state assembly, the senior leader took a swift U-turn regarding their support to the controversial act. Supporting 11 other Chief Ministers from opposition parties, Nitish said the NRC cannot be allowed in their states.
While the opposition-ruled states such as West Bengal and Kerala, have declared that they will not allow the population register, Nitish-led government joined the club of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh to voice against NRC. The Bihar CM also said any talks on the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019, should be done separately, and not read along with the NRC. On the other hand, Bihar’s Janata Dal (United) leader Prashant Kishor took a snap at BJP thanking Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s unequivocal rejection of the NRC.
