While the people with international travel history are being blamed for carrying the novel Coronavirus to India, the religious meeting held with almost 3,000 attendees raised concerns over the spread in almost 5 cities now. Devotees from different parts of the country and Asia had attended a convention of preachers held by the Tableeghi Jamaat here earlier this month, where some of them contracted the virus.
Several people who have tested positive for the coronavirus in parts of the country, including Jammu and Kashmir, are said to have participated in the religious programme at Nizamuddin held in the second week of March. On this note, the health authorities confirmed that around 200 devotees have now reportedly developed Corona symptoms while around 2,000 people in and around the Nizamuddin basti were home quarantined. Nizamuddin area in south-east Delhi is densely populated.
Meanwhile, the Delhi government has issued order to register an FIR against the maulana of the Markaz Masjid where the congregation had taken place. Tensions ran in the premises of Nizamuddin area as the Delhi police cordoned off the area with almost 400 houses under observation.
