No SC panel…Only JPC on Adani; Congress demands!
The Congress party has vehemently opposed the SC appointed expert committee on Adani issue. Jairam Ramesh, Senior Leader of Congress party told that this committee doesn’t have the power to examine all aspects of the case in its totality. He went on to say that this committee will be useful only to give ‘clean chit’ to the government of the day. The best way out would be to go for the probe through a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC).

- Speaking to media personnel on Wednesday, he said that the congress party is not going to go back on this demand. Jairam Ramesh went on to say that ever since this Adani issue has come to light on 5th February 2023, his party has put in 99 questions to PM Modi.
- The Congress party questioned him whether his government…especially the ‘army’ of its investigating agencies can be utilized in the larger interests of the Nation.
- According to Jairam Ramesh, unfortunately the SC appointed expert committee which came into life on 2nd March 2023, doesn’t have the controlling powers on the investigating agencies.
- He dubbed this issue as the biggest corruption case, since Independence and hoped that the investigating agencies would be given the freedom of investigating the Adani issue effectively.
- Directing his comments against PM Modi, Jairam Ramesh went on to say that ‘scope‘ of the investigating agencies on issues related to Crony capitalism or Cronyism is limited and perhaps the political interference of PM Modi may help protect his ‘friends’.
- In conclusion, he once again stated that only a JPC can take up all issues related to this scam and complete the investigation in its totality. Also added that the SC appointed panel / committee hovers around Adani Group only!
