‘Nobel for Modi’; fake news!
Asle Toje, Deputy Leader, The Norwegian Nobel Committee has responded to the news as reported by several agencies stating that this year’s Nobel Prize for Peace is to be awarded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He has categorically termed it as rumor and stated that the news was indeed fake! The news item doing rounds that Modi’s name is under the scrutiny of their committee was baseless. Asle also clarified that he hasn’t tweeted on any news related with this fake news. His clarification at a time when in the social media a news item stating that Modi’s name was under active consideration for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize gains importance.
His cryptic comment is that ‘do not further discuss and give prominence to this issue’ and also ‘don’t provide oxygen’. Thus, he has dismissed the news item unequivocally…Asle Toje is currently on a visit to India.
Asle Toje also clarified that he was visiting India, not as the Deputy Leader of The Norwegian Nobel Committee but as a friend of India, International Peace Director. In the same breadth, he was in appreciation of Prime Minister Modi’s leadership…and recalled his sincere efforts in trying to find out the modalities to avert war between Russia and Ukraine.
Asle also recalled about PM Modi’s efforts to convince Putin, The Russian President that there is no room for war in today’s world and tried to put his efforts to avoid war between Russia and Ukraine. He further commented that all the people of India are with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He described India as a peace loving country. He is of the opinion that Modi is highly respected and whatever India does it always sticks on to friendly and in a convincing manner. India never speaks in a ‘loud language’ and ‘never threatens’ are the other cryptic comments by Asle Toje. He concludes that India is considered as one of the most powerful nations of the world.
