Days after the North Korea supremo Kim Jong-un claimed their country’s ’shining success’ over coronavirus, things took a swift U-Turn on Sunday. The leader called for a high-level emergency meeting after a person suspected of having Covid-19 was taken into custody.
According to the sources, the suspect who returned from South Korea was illegally crossing the border. The suspect was reportedly sent into isolation and the reports are awaited, confirmed the state media. If confirmed, it would be the first case officially acknowledged by North Korean authorities.
Meanwhile, Kim declared a state of emergency and imposed a lockdown on the border city of Kaesong. “All the persons in Kaesong city who contacted that person and those who have been to the city in the last five days are being thoroughly investigated,” stated the officials.
On the other hand, it is also learnt that Kim also launched an investigation into how the person had managed to cross the heavily fortified border. Authorities have already issued a notice claiming those responsible would be administered with severe punishment.
It is to the known knowledge that North Korea had launched the national emergency system against the COVID-19, shut down its borders and tightened quarantine measures.
