Alleging that many of the media houses revealed the real identity and other details of Disha, the Hyderabadi vet who was brutally raped and murdered, a petition was filed in the Delhi High Court on Tuesday. A special bench comprising Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice C Hari Shankar is set to hear the petition filed by Delhi-based lawyer Yashdeep Chahal. The petition has a plea to restrict the media houses, various online and offline portals from exposure of the identity of rape victims in violation of IPC sections and various Supreme Court precedents.
In another filed by the advocates, Chirag Madaan and Sai Krishna Kumar alleged that the state police authorities were not prompt over the complaint filed by victims parents. The young advocates also stated that the state’s cyber cells were lethargic in taking action against the websites which revealed the name and arresting the netizen who posted obscene comments on the victim and her family. On the other hand, PV Murthy Raju from Kompalli showed disapproval of accepting the victim’s name as Disha. He filed a complaint with Hyderabad police to change the name with the one that is generally not used often like Nirbhaya.
