It was February 17, 2021, exactly one year ago, advocate couple Vamana Rao and Nagmani were murdered in daylight on the roads of Kalavacharla, Ramagiri Zone. The allegations stating that the main accused in the case have been sidelined are still being heard. Gattu Vamana Rao and Gunmani from Gunjapadugu village were working as lawyers in the High Court. Manthani was killed in a car on his way back to Hyderabad from court work.
As of today, a total of seven people have been arrested and sent to jail in connection with the murder. One of them was released on parole due to ill health. The other six remained in jail. However, the then Opposition, lawyers, and Vamana Rao’s parents alleged that there was a big conspiracy behind this double murder. The name of a former MLA came into the picture. There is a huge criticism that the case has not been fully investigated.
As per the sources and popular belief, Kunta Srinu, the zone president of the TRS party, killed the Vamana Rao couple. The local people who saw the bloody incident of that day are still trembling when talking about it. Opposition parties have stated the government didn’t do a proper investigation, and the real culprits are in fact roaming out comfortably. They demanded to put aside the current charge sheet and take quick action against the real criminals. There has been a demand from the outset that the case must be investigated by the CBI. Opposition parties opine that the real culprits will be revealed soon. They believe that Vamana Rao’s parents’ suspicions must be considered and the reasons behind them taking the name of a former MLA should be investigated.
Prosecutors also say that a year after the murder of the Vamana Rao couple, there are still many suspicions. Advocates say the Protection Act is needed. On Thursday, they protested wearing black badges demanding the immediate enactment of the Lawyers Protection Act as it is one year since the couple were killed. On this dark day, the Manthani Bar Association has asked lawyers to pay tribute to the couple.
