For the seventh consecutive day, Indian states registered over 50,000 cases taking the total caseload to 1,906,613. According to the recent health bulletin released by the Union Health Ministry, India recorded 52,509 new cases and 857 fatalities in the last 24 hours while the total death toll spiked to 39,795.
On the positive side, the country’s present case fatality rate, at 2.10%, is the lowest since the first lockdown was imposed and much lower than the global average. Taking the total number of active cases 5,86,244 while 12,82,216 cured/discharged/migrated.
Maharashtra, New Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh continued to top the list of worst corona hit states in the country.
Tensions ran high in national political circles as the list of politicians falling positive to corona kept increasing. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and Karti Chidambaram are few of the leaders who turned positive.
On COVID vaccine front, two out of the eight Pharma companies have entered phase-I human trials while coronavirus cases across the world have gone past 1.8 crore and over 6.91 lakh people have died so far.
