While the calendar has 10 days to roll down, August stood as the month to worry in India, as the country already set a record with 12 lakh fresh Covid-19 cases in this so far. As per the statistics, India bet the US and Brazil, the top worst-hit countries by recording 2,03,081 new infections in just three days.
According to the official data from the Union Health Ministry, 68,898 new cases are registered while the country crossed the 2.9 million-mark to 2,905,823. This is the second-highest single-day tally so far, while the Indian states registered 986 fatalities in the last 24 hours. The country’s death toll has surged to 53,994 by Friday.
Maharashtra (628,642), Tamil Nadu (361,435), Andhra Pradesh (325,396), Karnataka (256,975), and Uttar Pradesh (172,334) topped the list of most affected states. On a positive note, recoveries among Covid-19 patients in India have surged to 2,096,664, pushing the country’s recovery rate to 73.91 per cent.
Meanwhile, Telangana recorded 1,967 cases by Friday taking the total caseload to 99,391 so far. While the official claimed to conduct 26,767 corona tests in the last 24 hours, over 2,000 samples came back positive. As per the data, 8 new causalities were registered as the total number of deaths has increased to 737.
Andhra Pradesh continued its explosive spree as 9,393 more cases were added to push the overall tally further up to 3.25 lakh on Thursday. Also, the coronavirus fatalities continued their upward spiral, crossing the 3,000-mark with the addition of 95 fresh deaths in the last 24 hours.
