Pigeons are ahead! Be careful!
The fear of mafia was always felt by Mumbai and adding to that is now the fear of pigeons! Yes you read it right! Nowadays the pigeons are playing havoc in Mumbai city as Mumbai’s hyper sensitivity has been increased to 5 times. Huge numbers of people are dying over a period of time, just because of this hyper sensitivity related diseases. In fact, the death of the husband of Meena, a film actress was also due to hyper sensitivity as per the doctors’ conclusions.
Now the million dollar question is how come there is a connection between the pigeons and hypersensitivity. Everyone is wondering about this issue and let’s examine and try to figure out!
Generally the pigeon’s droppings are found on the house tops and if fallen on land, they shall easily mix and turn in to proper manure for the plants and trees alike. If that was not the case, the pigeon droppings shall create a lot of health issues for human beings. These pigeon droppings are mostly found on windows and other areas as well apart from house tops.
The pigeon droppings generally consist of a fungus called Histoplasma and affects the human beings with infection of the lungs. As a result human beings may get infected with lung related diseases like ‘Hyper Sensitive Pneumonitis’ or ‘Bird Fanciers Lung’. The symptoms include fever, joint pains, shortness of breath, dry cough etc. apart from the general symptoms of Pneumonia. Also it is to be noted that once the pigeon droppings get exposed to the sun, they may end up in influenza related diseases for the human beings through airborne transmission.
The doctors’ advice is that people suffering with chronic diseases, who have recovered from Covid, and those with lesser immunity, should avoid contact with pigeons and their surroundings. As a result, in some foreign countries the pigeons were banned. In fact, in London the authorities have banned feeding the pigeons and a hefty fine of 500 pounds would be imposed on the defaulters.
In the year 2019 the local Hyderabad administration has banned pigeon feeding in all the Horticulture parks within the GHMC limits. The authorities have confiscated large quantities of jowar, millets and other food grains used as fodder for pigeons in areas like Mozamjahi market, where in these pigeons were found in large numbers. Further, the authorities have also ensured that hundreds of these pigeons were caught and released at the nearby forest areas around the city.
In the year 2020, there were groups of people, who have demanded for the ban of pigeons in the city. Although the corrective measures have been effective for a decent period, today one can observe the pigeons once again roaming freely across the city and even find them in good numbers on the metro pillars throughout the city.
At the end of the day, it’s expected that the concerned authorities rise to the occasion and if need be seek support of the citizens to end this menace to ensure healthy life for the citizens. Lest, everyone need to fight with pigeon dropping related pneumonia like diseases forever! Perhaps, keeping our homes and surrounding environment clean and dust free is one of the many ways to tackle this menace.
