Seems like the political crisis in Madya Pradesh will end by Friday evening. In a response to the petition filed by the ruling BJP party urging for the Supreme Court’s intervention to resolve the issue, Kamla Nath-led Congress government was instructed to hold floor test by 5 pm on Friday.
In the line of court orders ruled by Justice DY Chandrachud, the floor test will be conducted by show of hands with only one agenda of resolving the political crisis in made Pradesh. It has to be videographed and there has to be live telecast of the proceedings,” the judges said. While 22 of the Congress MLAs absconded to Bengaluru amidst dramatic turn of events, the Supreme Court bench permitted the MLA’s to vote through video conference according to their wish.
“In case the rebel MLAs want to vote in person at the Assembly, both Karnataka DGP and Madhya Pradesh DGP will have to provide them security,” stated the apex court. Both the ruling Congress and opposition BJP welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision of floor test. While the governor accepted the resignation of 6 MLA’s, Congress now has the support of 108 legislators. The Madhya Pradesh assembly currently has 222 of 230 members and the majority mark is 112.
