Cannabis in the alleys, drugs in the pubs, liquor shops, is this the golden spice? Is this our culture? Many insults and many atrocities in the united government. Have we achieved the dream state of Telangana in these 8 years? No one has an answer to this question. The fact is that no matter how great the TRS leaders are, in many cases the answers to the questions posed by the Opposition are rhetorical, but there is no straightforward answer.
The surplus state became a debt-ridden state. And are they putting too much emphasis on our culture and traditions? there is a huge criticism stating that it isn’t so. Telangana Jagruti played a key role in the organization of the Batukamma festival after the formation of the state. Under the patronage of KCR’s daughter Kavitha, Batukamma celebrations were held across states and countries. But the pace has slowed ever since she lost as an MP. Opposition leaders say this means that the Batukamma festival is being used for political purposes only.
The situation with KCR is different, sacrifices and worships are occasionally hastened to indicate that he is a great Hindu. There is nothing wrong with believing in God. But the opposition’s argument is that it is not correct to pursue politics in the name of God. Is KCR alone being devoted enough? As should be for the rest of the leaders. An MLA insulted Lord Rama, another TRS leader passed bad comments. Many riots are going on in the state but they are staying on one side. However, is there anyone in the KCR team who has respect for the culture and traditions of Telangana? Opposition parties are questioning that. They are also saying that KCR is in fact speaking high of those who insulted the Telangana movement in the first place.
Opposition leaders have been criticizing KCR under various names over alcohol. There is no reason for that. Despite his habits, liquor shops have become a major weapon for the opposition. KCR has increased excise revenue on liquor from Rs 10,000 crore seven years ago to Rs 36,000 crore. Opposition parties are criticizing the conspiracy to turn the people of Telangana into alcoholics. They question whether it is our culture to drink alcohol indiscriminately.
Saying that the separate state of Telangana was accomplished after a lot of hard work, the opposition parties bashed KCR for granting a lot of permits for the alcohol stores and encouraging the business of alcohol. It is known that there were only 6 pubs in Hyderabad at one time. Now they have reached 89. Opposition leaders say that the TRS government is destroying the youth by promoting pub culture, while on the other hand uttering heroic sayings on stage about our culture and traditions. We have just seen how sensational the Radisson Blu Pub affair has become. Several articles have appeared on the screen on this issue.
The Opposition alleges that the encouragement of alcohol and drugs is evident and that the Telangana culture is under threat under the KCR regime. In the case of marijuana, hundreds of kilos are found anywhere in the state whenever a vehicle is parked and inspected. Nobody is even caring about the pace at which the cannabis sales are going rampant ruining the lives of youth. In a recent incident, a young man lost his life after getting overdosed on drugs. Although there was a bit of a rush after the incident, it is said that no strong action was taken to avoid and curb such situations in the future.
Is this the culture of Telangana? Opposition leaders are questioning whether drinking alcohol and enslaving youth to intoxication is the golden phase KCR keeps talking about. They are of opinion that under KCR’s tenure, Telangana is turning into a hub for cannabis, drugs, and pubs.
