Leaders of public unions and trade unions are furious over the arrest of retired IAS Akunuri Murali. Telangana JAC Chairman Purushottam asked why he would be arrested if he went to see the Kaleswaram project. Shouldn’t the people who caused the sinking of the pump house to be arrested? He deposed that. Without doing that, it is not correct to detain a person who is just going to see.
The NRIs are also responding to this incident. NRI Rai Das fired on arresting the Social Democratic group along with Akunuri. “It is very evil. Akunuri asked what was wrong. Is it his fault that the government is undermining the plight of the poor?” he questioned. He praised Akunuri for leaving his job and working hard for the poor. He urged everyone to condemn the illegal arrests. He said that the time has come to fight for a democratic Telangana. Rai Das called on us to fight in this matter so that no one should remain silent.
Akunuri Murali went to study the condition of the Kaleswaram pump house and project, which was submerged in the Godavari floods. But the police stopped him and took him into custody. Speaking to the media on this occasion, he explained the secrets of Kaleswaram. Defects in constructions were explained. He said that pumps are very important for lift projects and now they are not working. He said that the water came in due to the collapse of the protective wall. It was explained that it did not collapse due to floods.
Akunuri said that there will be a hundred-meter forebay in the middle of the Godavari pump house and there will be a regulator before it. It is clear that it is safe and that the wall collapsed and the pump houses were submerged. He said that if this protection wall is to be built again, we will have to wait until the dry season. That means waiting for another 7 to 9 months, he said. He explained that this is a loss for Kharif farmers. Besides, about Rs, 500 crores have been lost. Akunuri Murali criticized the hasty construction of the project and KCR’s failure to pressurize the engineers. He informed that the wall was built with poor materials and there is no water supply to the farmers this year.
