Amidst this, certain film stars and leader took a bold step of standing for the students and protesters at the campuses of Jamia Millia Islamia University and Aligarh Muslim University. However, they fell prey to the rife criticism for encouraging violence which in turn resulted in government suffering hundreds of crores losses. On the same, Super Star Rajinikanth was stuck in a strange situation which triggered flak from netizens.
As a part of the trailer release event of his upcoming movie ‘Darbar’, was asked for his views on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the police attacking students of Jamia Millia Islamia University and Aligarh Muslim University. Seated on the dais, alongside director AR Murugadoss, actor Suniel Shetty and others, refused to react on the issue despite the media people probing him. “This is a cinema event. I don’t want to talk about politics,” he said refusing to mix cinema and politics. However, Rajini assured that he will address the issue on a different platform while the reporters insisted him to react. Though his response received good applause from the people there, the video bytes taking rounds on social media have been receiving flack from national media and a few student groups.
On the other hand, actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan, on Tuesday, spoke out against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, calling it a ‘slap on democracy’. In the wake of Kamal’s open stand over the issue, Rajini’s fans who have been anticipating the latter’s entry into active politics took to social media to urge the star to react on the issue.
