With rising concerns over the third wave looming in the country, former ICMR scientist Dr. Raman Gangakhedkar gave a statement that came as a relief sort of news. The epidemiologist, who served the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) last year stated that chances of having a nationwide third wave are “very low”.
He also stated that even if the third wave strikes the country, the intensity would be minimal. Predicting the same, Dr. Raman found fault with the government’s decision to re-open schools as the latest studies suggest long-term side-effects of COVID19 infection among children.
In a statement that came as good news for everyone, the top scientist believes that Covid19 may end up like an influenza virus as around two-third of the population already has developed antibodies. However, he added, there is a need to follow Covid appropriate behavior irrespective of our vaccinations status as it is the best protective measure against acquiring a new infection even if one is exposed to new variant
