Assuring that the state is in safe hands that defies all odds to curtail the Coronavirus outbreak, state I & PR minister Perni Nani and AP Health Secretary, Jawahar Reddy addressed the state citizen. Followed by a high-level review meeting held by the Chief Minister, the Health Secretary said that the state government resolved to take up crucial steps in the coming days to contain the viral infection.
Jawahar Reddy informed that the state health authorities have been successfully implementing community surveillance and hospital preparedness, two strategies to identify the COVID-19 cases across the state. “Among the total 304 cases registered so far, 280 cases either have a direct or indirect connection with the Nizamuddin congregation. We have tested 1,000 samples of the Delhi returned and 2500 samples of their related to make sure no positive case go unnoticed,” averred the health secretary. He also stated that there is no chance of lifting lockdown after April 14th in the declares red zones until the situation comes under control.
Stating that 7 labs are working across the state, the health authorities stated that it would take up rapid testing from Wednesday. “Around 1,000 samples will be tested every day. To fasten up the diagnosis process, we have ordered for 3 lakh rapid testing kits,” stated Jawahar Reddy. It was also revealed that the state government is preparing to ramp up the number of beds to 26,000 across the 13 COVID facilities.
It was stated that the state now has 12,000 PPE kits while the state government is ready to procure additional 30,000 kits and N-95 masks every week. “Our COVID hospitals have 20 lakhs doses of Hydroxychloroquine and 14 lakh doses of Azithromysin in AP to combat the novel Coronavirus,” stated the health secretary. Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus positive cases in Andhra Pradesh has reached 304 while 4 casualties were registered so far.
