In a new twist in the legal battle between Jagan-led Andhra Pradesh government and APSEC Nimmgadda Ramesh Kumar over the local polls, the latter with the High Court stated that the SEC was all ready for conducting the local body elections.
While the petition filed by the SEC over the non-cooperation with the state election body came to hearing in the High Court on Tuesday, the SEC stated that 13 political parties which took part in the all-party meeting held recently are willing to go for local polls.
“We are prepared to conduct the elections by issuing the schedule with the pandemic easing to some extent,” said the SEC.
The High Court instructed the government to submit the report to the Court within 15 days. The court also expressed discontentment over the payments made to former justice Kanagraj towards the fee. The state election body was also ordered the State Election Commission to submit a detailed petition to the government within 3 days.
It can be noted that earlier, the High Court directed the State government to cooperate with the SEC in its functioning and directed the Chief Secretary to submit a report on the implementation of its orders within 15 days.
