In a shocking and unprecedented move which hinted upon the new heights of the political clash between BJP and TRS, the Prime Minister’s Office informed that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao need not come to the airport to receive Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the airport on Saturday.
While it has been a tradition that the state CM or his representatives along with the Governor would receive the Prime Minister at the airport during the visits, Modi this time snubbed it informing the CMO asking the CM that he need not receive him at the airport. This move came close on the heels of the BJP and TRS leaders exchanging heated comments as a part of GHMC election campaigning.
It is to the knowledge that the Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in Hyderabad to visit Bharat Biotech for a review of the progress the company had made regarding COVAXIN. During which, the PMO wrote to the state CMO giving permission to only five officers-the Chief Secretary, the District Collector concerned and the police officials to receive the PM at Hakimpet Airport.
It was speculated that PM doesn’t want to take a single chance of sending a message of BJP-TRS affinity ahead of the most prestigious polls. Seems like the BJP supreme wants to keep the political heat blazing for the next few days.
Another argument is that the PM wants to refrain the number of officials at the airport in the wake of a pandemic while it wouldn’t be possible if a PM and CM are at same place-going by the protocol.
Nevertheless, this is probably the first time in the history of the country that a democratically elected Chief Minister of a State has been asked to keep away from receiving the Prime Minister.
