Breaking its own record, with each passing day, India on Friday recorded yet another worst-ever single-day spike of 77,266 confirmed coronavirus cases in a single day. Taking the total caseload to 33,87,501, the country continued to inch towards surpassing Mexico, the second-worst corona-hit nation in the world.
According to the recent health bulletin released by the Union Health ministry, India logged 1,057 deaths in the last 24 hours while the total death toll stands at 61,529-now only a little behind Mexico’s toll (62,076).
Maharashtra (733,568), Tamil Nadu (403,242), Andhra Pradesh (3,82,469), Karnataka (309,792), and Uttar Pradesh (2,08,419) recorded the maximum cases so far. Going by the official data, India by Friday has a total of 7,42,023 active cases as 25,83,948 people were cured/discharged/migrated.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh recorded 10,621 new infections on Thursday while the total cases so far stand at 3,93.090. Telangana, on the other hand, recorded 2,932 cases by Friday morning taking the total cases to 1,17,415.
