The intensified depression which crossed the north Andhra Pradesh coast close to Kakinada during Tuesday morning is expected to bring in heavy rainfall in Telugu states, stated the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in a fresh warning.
The Deep Depression reportedly crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast between Narsapur and Vishakhapatnam with a wind speed of 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph. A ‘red warning’ was already issued to five coastal districts in Andhra Pradesh while the agency warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and the two Godavari districts.
The Telugu States registered a heavy batter of rain which touched over 200mm over the last two days under the influence of the deep depression. The IMD has issued ‘orange warning’ to Krishna and Kurnool districts while the officials issued cautionary signals (signal number 3). The fisheries department has been instructed to issue alerts at the fishing harbours and warn fishermen against venturing into the sea.
