Chennai: 80 plus hours of rescue operation and crores of people praying for his safe return couldn’t help save the 2-year-old Sujith Wilson who got trapped in an 88-feet-deep abandoned borewell in Tamil Nadu, Tiruchirappalli. After 82 hours of rescue operation the boy was declared dead by the officials on Friday. Amidst hundreds of people who gathered to witness the rescue operation, the decomposed body was taken out from the parallel tunnel dug. However, the stench emanating from the borewell confirmed the kid’s death hours earlier after which the rescue operation was slowed down. Sujith’s body was taken straight to the cemetery after completing the autopsy at the Manaparai Government Hospital.
Sujith fell into the borewell on Friday around 5:45 PM while playing on the family’s farm and got trapped at a depth of 26 feet. While the rescue teams attempted to pull him out, the boy ended up slipping to 88 feet depth. Celebrities and politicians poured out their condolences on social media.
My prayers are with the young and brave Sujith Wilson. Spoke to CM @EPSTamilNadu regarding the rescue efforts underway to save Sujith. Every effort is being made to ensure that he is safe. @CMOTamilNadu
