Chief Minister KCR who claimed to bring hope to the Dalit families with his ambitious welfare scheme Dalit Bandhu seems to welcome unexpected darkness. The scheme was learned to bring disputes among Dalit families in villages in Huzurabad constituency.
The state government claimed that the pilot project will disperse at least Rs 3,000 crore to all Dalit families in Huzurabad. However, it was learned that the authorities has cut down the number of beneficiaries as the funds sanctioned so far are less than Rs 500 crores.
This has brought new headaches to the officials as they need to select beneficiaries in the villages. Many of the villagers alleged that only a few families are being listed for the scheme which didn’t go well with the other families who are eligible. At places, dharnas and sit-ins raising slogans against the KCR government were also reported.
Allegations have it that many Dalit who already own land and own houses were listed while the real beneficiaries were ignored. It was also learned that the official included two names from the same family. Villagers are now demanding that the officials should stop the scheme if they are not ready to include all the beneficiaries’ names.
