In a shocking verdict, the Adilabad district fast track court on Thursday imposed the death sentence on the three accused in Samatha’s rape case which set ripples in the Telugu states. The main accused Sheikh Babu and the other two accused Sheikh Shaboddin and Sheikh Mukhamla were sentenced under Section 376D. While the case was due on January 27th, the verdict was postponed over the judge’s illness. The brutal rape and murder of Samatha, the local of Yellapatur in Jellore mandal which took place on November 24th shocked the police back then. Samatha who was a balloon vendor was trapped and raped by three locals who were later taken into custody.
Telangana government set up a special court on December 11th and has reportedly interrogated 27 witnesses before passing the verdict. The Telangana police have submitted 114-page charge sheet after 20-days of investigation. While none of the lawyers came forward to argue for the accused in court, Raheem, with the permission of the court, argued on behalf of the accused. However, the villagers along with the Samatha’s family welcomed the special court verdict.
