Will Polavaram, the lifeline of Andhra Pradesh see it’s completion? With the scenarios like centre being sceptical about the project, people of AP are slowly losing hope about the project’s completion.
Navayuga Engineering Company Ltd, which holds the Guinness World Record for the pace of constructing the project has approached the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday. This contract agency that was given the tender has questioned the legality of the state government’s decision to reverse tendering on the ongoing Polavaram project. Navayuga has urged the Court to cancel the August 14 orders of Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (AP GENCO) which asks to halt all ongoing work of the project.
Showing corruption, issue at inflated rates, Jagan’s government had ordered reverse tendering of major irrigation projects in the state including Polavaram. The Centre, however, does not agree with the State government’s claim. The Central Water Resources Department has intervened and asked the Polavaram Project Authority to submit a report on this reverse tendering issue. The Centre also sought reports of why the state government has turned a blind eye to the proposal given by both central government and authority.
The Polavaram Project Authority is currently engaged in preparing a comprehensive report which will be submitted to the Union Minister within a week. The reports will include the details of Polavaram’s construction so far and the changes that have been made since the government’s change in the state. The center that has already sought PPA for the report on the reverse tender deal and is all set to take necessary actions immediately. On the other hand, the petition filed by Navayuga in the High Court is under investigation.
