Scrapping AP Legislative Council stood as the focal point in state politics with the Jagan-led Andhra Pradesh state government resorting to a legal battle with main opposition TDP. In the 58-member House, the ruling YSRC faced legislative hurdles as it is unable to push important legislation due to opposition from TDP that enjoys a majority.
However, the issue subsided as time passed and going by the present political scenario political circles are rife with speculations that AP CM Jagan took a step back with his decision to scrap the legislative council. A few sources went ahead and confirmed that the YRSCP chief seems to have completely dropped the idea.
Here are a few hints caught by the political analysts in support with the above argument. YSRCP sources confirmed that Jagan has been giving assurances to a few leaders over the nomination to the state legislative council. Balli Kalyan Chakravarthi, son of former Tirupati MP Balli Durgaprasada Rao is reportedly one such leader.
Despite his proposal to scrap the council, Jagan’s party has continued nominating Dokka Manikya Varaprasad and two other MLCs – Pandula Ravindra Babu and Zakia Khanum to the council under the Governor’s quota. This triggered speculation over Jagan dropping down the idea of abolition of the legislative council.
