While the World Health Organisation(WHO) raised health emergency with the death toll surpassed 6,000 worldwide, the tech giant Google joined hands in battling the outbreak. Issuing one of its rare alerts features, the search engine master took a step ahead to curb the fake news regarding the health epidemic.
From the past few hours, the search engine has been displaying a big red bar above all of your results if you google the word ‘Coronavirus’. Usually, when Google brings SOS alert banner at the top of Google search, it signals that the company has brought together ‘relevant and authoritative content’, and filtered out bogus stories. In the recent revelation, Google will now prioritise the news from mainstream publications followed by information from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization displayed prominently.
In the line of the alert, Goggle will avoid showing all the whacky articles and ads tailored to your country’s search results. Google also started showing an SOS alert pop up on their home screen, but only if they’re near an affected area. Since Covid-19 began to spread, Google has aggressively intervened in some of its most popular online services to limit the spread of misinformation.
