Amidst the speculations that the strains of coronavirus are turning stronger and more infectious, researchers from the top-notch universities continued to carry out various studies over the pattern of the deadly virus. One such comprehensive study carried out pediatric patients provide critical data which came as a shock to the medical community.
According to the study, Children infected with the coronavirus have been found to carry high levels of the germ. Termed as the ‘silent spreaders’, the children and youth ranging between the newborns to 22-year-olds were observed to carry a significantly higher level of the virus than adults who tested positive.
The study was run on 192 children while the team noted that of those who had symptoms, they were nonspecific to COVID-19. “The presence of the virus does not correlate with symptoms,” stated the study. The levels of the virus were highest in children in the first two days during which they tend to show mild symptoms that included a runny nose, cough and or low fever.
Researchers confirmed that children can carry a high viral load, which means they are more contagious, regardless of their susceptibility to developing an infection. However, it suggests that children are less likely to become seriously ill from catching SARS-CoV-2, but those without symptoms can spread the infection.
This study cam close on the heels of various government’s speculating to re-open the schools and colleges to cop up with the yearly schedule which was in lag due to corona lockdown. The researches also warned that schools relying on temperature checks or symptom screenings to identify cases of coronavirus are no longer an effective way.
