Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam(TTD), the governing body of the Lord Venkateshwara shrine in Tirupati has become the focal point for controversies ever since Jawahar Reddy assumed office as the Executive Officer. Be it the ‘temple funds into state government security’ issue, gold deposits or the pink diamond mystery, TTD has been drawing sharp criticism.
In the recent revelation, the TTD board has withdrawn the high profile ‘Pink Diamond’ case from the court while YSRCP key leader VijayaSai Reddy and former chief priest Rama Deekshithulu were the main accused. It can be recalled that Ramana Deekshitulu has alleged that a precious pink diamond that was part of a platinum necklace of Lord Balaji, the temple’s deity, is missing.
He also suspected it was the same piece of jewellery that was auctioned recently in Geneva for ₹ 500 crores. Further, the priest also called for a CBI enquiry alleging that many such pieces of jewellery have vanished. After the most controversial press conference, the former chief priest was shown the door.
Coming back, the state BJP leaders have come down heavily on the TTD’s move acceding the Jagan-led government favouring Deekshithulu and VijayaSai Reddy. The BJP also demanded the YCP leaders and Ramana Deekshitulu to deposit all this money from their personal funds into the Tirumala hundi. It can be noted that the previous government was learnt to spend over Rs 2 crores towards the court expenses.
