In an official statement after hours of high tensions, the authorities of LG Polymers plant in R Venkatapuram clarified that the situation at the plant is completely under control. The authorities on this note also clarified that media reports of a second leak were incorrect.
“There was no second leak from the plant and rumours and reports about it is “incorrect,’’ said LG. Stating that they have been deploying all possible measures to bring the temperatures under control, LG in its official statement ever since the havoc. The statement also stated that it is them that urged the authorities to evacuation the residents as a precautionary measure.
There were reports of second gas leakage from the plant late Thursday night which triggered panic among residents who rushed to Beach Road. Though this official statement denied the second leakage, district officials, on the contrary, claimed that the emissions continued even as the rescue workers sprayed water to bring down the temperature.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh government has ordered for a door to door survey in the five villages located near LG Polymers India Pvt Ltd in R R Venkatapuram to assess the adverse impact and step up relief operations for the victims. This came close on the heels of the state government announcing ex-gratia and constituting a high-power five-member panel headed by Special Chief Secretary.
