Followed by Sonia Gandhi making her ‘quits’ decision official, a series of events in Congress Working Committee (CWC) Meeting on Monday grabbed the nation’s attention with senior leaders turning furious.
The meeting soon turned into a Rahul versus senior leaders, as the young leader openly made sensational remarks over the 23 dissident leaders, who had written to interim chief Sonia Gandhi on the leadership crisis.
Further heating up the situations, Rahul alleged that the respective leader colluded with BJP. High drama unfolded while irked senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad offered to quit if the charges were proven.
Another senior leader and advocate Kapil Sibal as well expressed displeasure on social media over former president Rahul Gandhi’s purported remark. However, he removed the post later followed by a clarification from Rahul.
Sonia Gandhi’s decision to quit follows the letter written by 26 top Congress leaders, including MPs and former Union Ministers, demanding a “full-time, visible leadership” and complaining about a drift in the party.
Sources revealed that all the signatories to the letter are trying hard to meet Sonia personally to defuse the tension while the leading lady was learnt to ask Rahul to meet the leaders.
This speculated meet with Rahul Gandhi might end with two possibilities. The first is that the leaders successfully persuade Rahul to take over as interim president or the situation again goes in a circle ending at Sonia Gandhi.
In the second case, Sonia Gandhi may stay on as interim chief until the party selects a non-Gandhi president either through elections or consensus
