SP Balasubrahmanyam, the legendary singer who touched millions of fans across the world breathed his last on Friday while undergoing treatment in MGH Healthcare in Chennai.
The singer’s body was brought to his home in Kamdhar Nagar street number 1 in Kodambakkam around 4 PM as the area was already flooded with a huge crowd of fans waiting to pay their last respects to the singer. Balu’s family members informed that the last rites will be held tomorrow in their Tamaraipakkam farmhouse in Tiruvallur district at 11 AM on Saturday.
The legendary singer breathed his last on 1.04 PM in MGM Hospital minutes after which his son SP Charan confirmed the news with a heavy heart. “In a further setback this morning, despite maximum life support measures and the best efforts of the clinical team, his condition deteriorated further, and he suffered a cardio-respiratory arrest. With profound grief, we regret to inform that he passed away,” read the official release issued.
Balasubrahmanyam has been in hospital since August 5 after testing positive for COVID-19. He also said that though doctors advised home quarantine and medications, he decided to get admitted to hospital. He was later shifted on life support and moved to the Intensive Care Unit after his health deteriorated for the first time on August 13th.
He is survived by wife Savitri and his two children – daughter Pallavi and son SP Charan. His last rites will be performed by his son, Charan.
