A brutal murder which found parallels with Lakshmi-Manohar case that took place in 2004 in Vijayawada, an Engineering student was stated to death in the name of love rejection. In an incident which took place on Thursday, a 24-year-old man Nagendra alias Chinna Swamy who is a painter by profession slit the throat of a 20-year-old girl in her residence.
In the preliminary investigation, it was learnt that Swami had been stalking the woman for several days, claiming to be in love with her. However, the girl rejected his advances and threatened to complain to the police. Holding a grudge, Swami attacked the girl with a knife and then inflicted three injuries to his own stomach, neck and wrist.
While the girl’s family members rushed her to ESI hospital and later shifted to a private hospital, she was declared brought dead. Meanwhile, Swamy is battling for life at Guntur general hospital. It can be noted that this is the second such attack on a woman in Vijayawada in less than one week. A nurse was burnt alive by her estranged lover near her house at Hanumanpet.
The atrocity drew protests from various organisations while state women commission chairperson V Padma visited the bereaved family and consoled them. JanaSena Chief Pawan Kayan condemned the attack and demanded the state government and police department to bring stringent punishments for the accused.
