When strict rules and police forces couldn’t come to the rescue for holding the citizen under lockdown, a panchayat decided to enforce laws by hook or crook. The Thazhekkode Gram Panchayat in Malappuram district of Kerala came up with a creative and tempting offer for the families who will not step out of their homes during the lockdown.
While the other alternative failed, a grama panchayat of Kerala state decided to hold a contest as a part of which the citizen will be awarded half a sovereign of gold as first prize, second prize – a refrigerator, third prize – a washing machine and 50 complimentary prizes if they strict stay home during the lockdown.
Speaking over the same, A.K. Nasar, president of the grama panchayat said that they came up with this idea on April and would announce the winner after the lockdown will be called off by the central government. “Once the contest ends, we will ask for an affidavit from all those who come claiming that none in their family have ventured out. Coupons will be given to all such families and the winners will be selected through a lucky draw,” added Nasar.
The panchayat has around 10,000 families who are now actively participating in the competition to win the announced gifts. Meanwhile, the initiative taken up by the panchayat is receiving applause from netizens including the politicians across the country.
