20 days after the Amaravati farmers started their protests against the government’s ‘three capital’ proposal, the situations in the capital region gripped out of control on Tuesday. Tensions prevailed from the early hours of Tuesday as the police held the TDP leaders like Devineni Uma and MP Galla Jayadev. Farmers, locals and TDP activists reached the TDP leader’s house raising slogans to let his out. Hours after which, TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh was arrested in Vijayawada while he was on the way to participate in the ‘National Highway Roko’ program at Chinakakani.
Tension reportedly prevailed at Thotlavalluru police station as Lokesh continued his protest alongside MLA Ramanaidu, Former Minister Kollu Ravindra and few other TDP leaders. After which the irate farmers heckled YSRCP MLA Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy’s car.
The farmers who called for ‘National Highway Roko’, blocked NH-16 at Chinakakani village, blocked Pinnelli’s vehicle and pelted stones with slogans against the government. While the police tried to stop the farmers, the place turned war zone for a while. However, the situation was brought into control as police took a few of the farmers into custody. Speaking to the media, Pinnelli condemned the attack on him and alleged TDP activists’ hands behind the attack. YSRCP MLA and APIIC Chairman RK Roja lashed out on the oppositions for probing farmers into attacks.
