Tensions ran high at the Garikapadu check-post in Krishna district on the Andhra Pradesh (A.P.) – Telangana border while thousands were stranded-off at the border since Wednesday-Thursday midnight. Thousands of techies, corporate executives, civils aspirants and small-time executives from Andhra Pradesh living in Hyderabad queued up at the check post as Andhra Pradesh police refused to allow them into the state due to lockdown.
According to the authorities at the check post, 44 persons who agreed to get quarantined were sent to the facility at Nuzvid while hundred returned back to Telangana. With the AP police seeking permission in written format, panic-hit students and techies flocked at the Hyderabad police stations for letters to go to their hometowns upon which the police issued the NOCs.
While the people with permission letter reached Garikapadu, the vehicles were stopped around 3.30 pm, leaving the passengers stranded. Women with children were also seen at the check post. A few opted for quarantine at government-designated centres and were sent accordingly. This has been receiving a wave of criticism while social distancing was snubbed increasing the chances of novel infectious’ spread.
