Just as the citizen of national capital region on Sunday evening heaved a sigh of relief over the dark clouds amidst the speculations that the rains would bring down the temperatures and rising pollution levels, Delhi Fire Service department and other emergency services were suffocated with calls over the strange common complaint.
Minutes after the city started to soak in the drizzle, the Delhi Fire Department started receiving calls reporting “oil rain” from all over the city. While the officials started to snub them as prank calls, things escalated with the department receiving almost 55 such calls reporting “oil tinged rain” or “oil-like substance in rainwater.
According to the complaint registered, many bikers slipped and fell on the road because of the slippery oil-like material spilled on the road. While the Delhi police shut down the roads opposite Holy Family Hospital, the Fire Brigade reportedly has taken up road washing on a war footing.
“Prima facie, it seems that due to rain, dust and earth and other materials available on the road caused slippage and because of that motorists gave the call,” Fire chief Atul Garg said. He also stated that the department is investigating the matter further.
