Owing to the Centre’s decision to allow 100 per cent FDI in coal mining, the miners at Telangana’s Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has called on for a day-long strike on Tuesday. This strike by the trade unions has caused an outright halt in production and dispatch at the mines. Seeking withdrawal of the central government’s move, over half-a-million workers from five federations of CIL and Singareni Collieries withdrew their daily works supporting the strike. The production of around 1.5 million tonne of production is likely to be disrupted due to the halt. “Strike is total with a complete stop in production, transportation and dispatch of coal from all mines, Assam to Singareni,” stated D D Ramanandan, the General Secretary for All India Coal Workers’ Federation. Pertaining to Singareni, the centre held 49 per cent of share while the state holds 51 per cent.
