Almost every Telugite is familiar with Sugali Parvati’s fight for justice from the past three years. The brutal assault on class 10 school girl Sugali Preeti who was seen ganging dead in the hotel created a sensation in Telugu states and yet justice laid unserved to the parents’ intensive agitations and protests. The case was reportedly misled by the Residential High School authorities along with a few influential people who have been accused in the rape and murder of the girl. Despite various channels repeatedly bringing the issue into the limelight, the parents’ demand for a CBI enquiry was left ignored.
However, the fight for justice took a swift turn with the JanaSena chief Pawan Kalyan extending his support to the parents. The actor-turned-politician also called for a staged in Kurnool while thousands of people turned out urging the government to heed to their plea. Demanding the government to hand over the case to CBI, Pawan also announced that he would sit for a hunger strike.
Days after which Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan met with Preeti’s parents Sugali Raju and Sugali Parvathi Devi and assured justice. However, the meeting was not a planned one..! The parents happened to meet the CM while he was at the launch of the third phase of the mass eye-screening programme ‘YSR Kanti Velugu’. Though the YSRCP a section of fans is boasting about the move, there has been a roll of criticism over the Chief Minister for turning down repeated appeals of Preeti’s parents for the appointment.
A few of the netizens criticised the Jagan-led government, opining that the government seems to react to issues only after repeated protests and agitations. Like many other issues, this move also discursively helped JanaSena chief while the internet flooded with messages thanking Pawan Kalyan for pressurising government.
