While the BJP which has been trying all odds to strengthen roots in South India wants VK Sasikala, the former CM J Jayalalithaa’s close aide in a shocking move announced that she has decided to “step aside” from politics and that she will pray for Amma’s “golden rule”.
In a two-page letter, signed by Sasikala which was first on Jaya TV on Wednesday, the leader who once played an influential role in the state urged Amma’s followers to work hard to ensure her rule. Interestingly, Sasikala did not refer to herself as AIADMK General Secretary, contrary to TTV Dhinkaran’s claims.
Shocking every political analyst who often projected Sasikala as power-hungry, the former minister in her letter stated that she was never gone after power or prestige. “I have never hankered after title, posts or power. I will stay away from politics and pray to ‘akka’ (sister) and to God, for AIADMK rule to continue,” she added.
The move came as a shock to BJP which has been facing has been mounting pressure on the AIADMK to work with Sasikala and the AMMK. However, Sasikala’s decision seems to come as an advantage for ruling AIADMK avoiding the splitting of votes.
Sasikala’s nephew TTV Dhinakaran, who launched his own party, Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) after AIADMK ousted him out stated that he was not in agreement with her on the decision.
