While the Telangana Chief Minister is on damage control process trying to please the RTC employees with sops and assurances, the senior drivers in the organisation gave a shocker of sorts to the KCR-led government. Post the secluded meeting with the employees from various depots, KCR showered good news for the employees who went through a rough patch for nearly two months. Including the assurance of full job security, KCR also announced that the government would increase the retirement age of the employees from 58 to 60 years. This has also been one of the poll promises made by TRS supremo KCR during the campaigning. However, seems like the RTC drivers have some other plans for KCR.
During the dedicated meet with the Chief Minister with the employees, when the former asked for suggestions, the drivers amongst them found no qualms to reject KCR’s proposal of extending the retirement age from 58 to 60. Despite claiming this to be good news, many of the drives confronted that pertaining to various age-related ailments, they wouldn’t be medically fit to drive the buses till 60 years. Some of the senior drivers disclosed that they were already suffering from vision and bone problems which would probably worsen with age. Reportedly, the employees have asked the Chief Minister and RTC authorities for better VRS.
